देश की राजधानी दिल्ली और देश की आर्थिक राजधानी मुंबई समेत भारत में आठ शहर ऐसे हैं, जिनकी रफ्तार कभी ठहरती व थमती नहीं है, लेकिन कुछ ही सालों में प्लास्टिक इनकी रफ्तार पकड़ कर सामने आया है। यह कितना दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है कि देश की अर्थव्यवस्था की दशा दिशा तय करने वाले ये शहर आज मामूली बारिश भी सहन कर पाने की स्थिति में नहीं हैं। कुछ ही मिनटों में इनके गली-मुहल्ले डूब जाते हैं, और जनजीवन ठप्प हो जाता है। बड़े शहरों की ड्रिनेज लाईन में लगातार फँसते और बढ़ते प्लास्टिक कचरे को यदि समय रहते नहीं निकाला गया, तो आने वाले समय में यह संकट और भी गहरा हो सकता है। आज चारों ओर बिखरे प्लास्टिक कचरे के चलते ड्रेनेज सिस्टम ध्वस्त होता जा रहा है और जरा-सी बारिश में बाढ़ जैसी स्थिति पैदा हो रही है। चार महानगरों (दिल्ली, मुंबई, कोलकाता, चेन्नई) समेत बेंगलुरू, हैदराबाद, लखनऊ, देहरादून, रांची और पटना की यदि बात करें तो देश की पाँच फीसदी से ज्यादा आबादी इन्हीं शहरों में रहती है। देश की अर्थव्यवस्था को रफ्तार देने में भी ये शहर अहम योगदान दे रहे हैं, लेकिन ये शहर भी अब प्लास्टिक के बोझ तले दबे जा रहे ...
